Trứng vịt cho vào nồi luộc ngập nước. Đợi nước sôi thì hạ lửa nhỏ kho thêm 8 – 12 phút nữa rồi vớt trứng ra để nguội. Bóc bỏ vỏ trứng.

Cho trứng vào nồi, thêm nước lọc, đường trắng và nước tương vào rồi đun sôi. Sau đó hạ lửa nhỏ liu riu kho trứng đến khi trứng lên màu vàng nâu đẹp mắt, nước kho cạn lại bằng 1/3 ban đầu là được. Rắc lên trứng một ít hành lá cắt nhuyễn rồi tắt bếp.
